If we had to give a name to the century we are in, one of the alternatives would undoubtedly be the "age of metropolises". The rapidly increasing population density in cities and the infrastructure problems it brings with it cause the acceleration of efforts to make cities smarter.
Based on this fact, CeBIT Bilişim Eurasia, Eurasia's number one Information, Technology and Communication Platform, has determined one of the main themes of 2012 as "Smart cities and informatics in smart cities". The fair, held at Yeşilköy CNR Expo between 29 November and 2 December, hosted many local and foreign participants, as well as major players in the sector, municipalities and local governments.
30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE CEBIT MOVED TO
SAMPAŞ, which offers information technologies and applications to municipalities and related organizations in urban transformation processes with its 30 years of experience, also assumed the main sponsorship of the "Urban Transformation Summit in Smart Cities" organized within the scope of the fair.
It was held on 30 November and the opening speeches were made by Beyoğlu Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan, Deputy General Manager of Infrastructure and Urban Transformation Services Mehmet Vangün and SAMPAŞ A.Ş. Ministry officials, mayors and local government representatives also attended the summit, which was held by Chairman of the Board of Directors Şekip Karakaya.
At the summit, where the role of IT applications in urban transformation was discussed, smart city solutions of municipalities, smart municipal practices and solution suggestions were presented to the participants. and was explained to citizens first-hand. In two separate panels titled "Presidents Talk About Urban Transformation and Infrastructure" and "Urban Transformation from Local and Public Perspective" held within the scope of the summit, ministry representatives, mayors, sector stakeholders and academics shared the success stories achieved through the urban transformation process and the role of informatics applications.

Giving a speech and presentation at the summit, Beyoğlu Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan touched upon the importance of software and informatics in the urban transformation process. "It is not possible to survive in the global world without IT applications," said Demircan, adding that they have carried out extremely successful automation projects that increase efficiency and savings for Beyoğlu Municipality in cooperation with SAMPAŞ.
Providing information to the participants about the processes of the Tarlabaşı Urban Transformation Project, Demircan said, "Only with reason could it be possible to complete such a difficult and long-term transformation in a short time and smoothly, without making the citizens unhappy." Stating that they started by collecting information and converting it into data, Demircan said, "Tarlabaşı Project once again revealed the role of informatics in the urban transformation process."
Speaking at the "Urban Transformation Summit in Smart Cities", SAMPAŞ Chief Executive Officer Şekip Karakaya said, "We have adopted the principle of creating brand cities that are civilized and have a high quality of life."
